The healthcare system faces a crisis, stressing nursing staff and impacting mental health. The EU-funded XR2esilience project uses extended reality (XR) to enhance nurses’ resilience, providing personalized training based on individual needs. It will assess key resilience factors, barriers, and offer recommendations for supportive environments.
Identify important resilience factors and mechanisms in nursing staff
Systematically identify the unique potential of XR in promoting resilience
Develop XR interventions that are accepted by nurses
Develop XR interventions that impact mental health in nursing staff
Develop XR interventions tailored to the individual needs of the participants
Investigate efficacy in a state-of-the-art randomized controlled trial
Conduct a health economic evaluation alongside the RCT
Investigate if XR interventions can increase the overall reach of mental health interventions in the hard-to-reach group of nursing staff
The healthcare system is facing an unprecendented crisis, placing immense pres- sure on nursing staff and excacerbating their mental health challenges.
Despite recognizing the importance of nurses’ mental well-being, creating effective solutions remains difficult. In this context, the EU-funded XR2esilience project aims to harness extended reality (XR) to enhance resilience among nurses.
By integrating immersive XR applications, the project seeks to provide tailored resil- ience training that can adapt to individual needs. Through a cohort study and anal- ysis of existing data, XR2esilience will identify key resilience factors and assess the effectiveness of XR training. The project will also evaluate barriers to acceptance and provide recommendations for creating supportive nursing environments.

ON HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS
XR²ESILIENCE delivers an individualized training approach that integrates empirical findings regarding resilience factors and mechanisms and is designed to work not only at the individual level, but also at the organizational level.
Our research methodology will allow us to guide the application of research findings in the real world and provide recommendations to stakeholders, organizations, and policymakers.
